Sealife Rescue (V16)

Objective: Students will understand how marine animals are rescued in a stranding situation; learn how marine animals are treated for various injuries and sicknesses; learn what Mote Marine Laboratory does for sick and injured marine animals; and understand how they can protect these animals.

Time required: Approximately 30 minutes.

Cost:$100.00 USD.

Recommended Grade Level: 5th - 12th grade (students age 11 – 18 years).

Materials: To participate in this program, you will need the following:

1. A videoconferencing system capable of 384 Kbps or more, IP or I2 (required)
2. Mote eNotes (optional)
   • Sharks and Skates
   • Manatees & Dugongs
   • Sea Turtles
   • Dolphins and Whales

Overview: In this videoconference, Mote Marine Laboratory will present a media-rich videoconference on sealife rescue. Topics will include:

• Countdown. (4 min.)
• Interactive game show called Sealife Rescue (~15 min.)
• Rescue, rehabilitation, release, threats and conservation of the following:
• Sea Turtles
• Sharks
• Whales
• Dolphins
• Polar Bears
• Sea Birds
• Manatees
• Conservation message (5 min.)
• Question and Answer. (6 min.)
